Hitting a home run into the next season of your life.

Life on Rung 5? It’s an exciting step. One you’ve been building towards for 3, maybe even 5 years. Sometimes it feels like your whole life.

When we talk about Rung 5 of the BuiltWealth™ Ladder, we’re talking about the sale.

The exit.

The big check.

The scoreboard moment where you look up and say, “Wow, we did it!”

But what doesn’t get talked about enough is the reality that the hard decisions don’t stop when you sell.

In a lot of ways, they’re just getting started.

You’ve spent 20, 30, sometimes 40 years building this thing. You scrimped and saved. You signed the front of the checks when you weren’t sure there was money in the back. You did the job walks. You priced the bids. You missed some dinners.

That business isn’t just an asset on a balance sheet. It’s your identity.

So yes, there’s a big deposit that hits the account. And everyone high fives. It’s a big celebration movement to be savored.

But then what?

Now you have to decide: Who am I without this company? How much is enough? How much do we invest? How much do we gift? Do we help the kids? Do we start something new? Do we sit still?

Nobody prepares owners for that part.

So much time is spent on Rung 4, getting the business “wrapped up in a bow” for the buyer, that you can forget to prepare psychologically as a seller.

And that’s a mistake.

Because I’ve seen it. The fear. The second guessing. The feeling of, “Did I just sell my purpose?”

That’s why, as a team, we look at this from all sides.

Rung 5 is not just a transaction. It’s a transition.

It’s moving from operator to investor. From business owner to steward of wealth.

That requires a different muscle set.

And here’s the truth I’ve learned over the years working with business owners and as one myself: the check does not solve clarity.

It amplifies whatever clarity or confusion was already there.

So the real work we do is making sure, before and after the sale, that you’re aligned. With your spouse. With your family. With your advisors. That there’s a backstop. There’s a vision for what a great Tuesday looks like when you don’t have to go into the office.

Financial freedom is simple with a strategy. But freedom without purpose can feel empty.

So the question isn’t just, “What will someone pay for my business?”

It’s, “Who do I want to become after I sell it?”

That’s Rung 5.

And if we do it right, it’s not an ending.

It’s a home run into the next season of your life.
