Jason is not your typical Financial Advisor. In his role as Investor Coach he provides our clients with more than just an occasional check-in for financial advice. He strives for each client to fully understand their Investment Philosophy, strategy and its impact on their long-term financial well-being. Since 2009, Jason has helped grow our business by improving technology, standardizing processes to improve firm efficiency, presenting financial education workshops and being active in many networking groups and non-profit initiatives.
Having grown up in a family of entrepreneurs, Jason knew from an early age he wanted to be involved in some capacity with business and finance. He realized the beginning of that dream when he graduated from the Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland. During his undergraduate summers, Jason worked at HFM as an Intern and found his calling. His studies about Modern Portfolio Theory, Efficient Market Hypothesis and the 3-Factor Model were immediately put to work at HFM. Jason’s thirst for knowledge continued as he became a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® in spring 2016.
Jason has been a Rotarian since 2010, most recently with the Glassboro Chapter of Rotary International. He volunteers his time and talents as a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society, MS Society, People for People Foundation and is a member for the Gloucester County Chamber of Commerce Faces of Business and Status Grow committees. Jason was named as one of South Jersey Biz Magazine’s top “20 under 40” for 2016. Read more HERE.
Book Recommendations to People
First is the one we give to all new clients at HFM, “The Investment Answer” by Daniel Goldie and Gordon S. Murray and the second is “The E-Myth” by Michael Gerber. We talk to so many people that want to start businesses and be their own boss, which is great. It’s been a best seller for a very long time. E-Myth is a great read!
The Economist blog, Business Insider, and some other financial stuff.
Best Presentation He’s Heard In Person
Arthur Laffer, world renowned economist, at a conference in 2014. You’d think it would’ve been a snoozer, but he was so dynamic and engaging, you could hear a pin drop.
Often Described As
Someone who rarely sits still and never settles. Someone they can rely on and will always be honest with them.
Favorite Client “Aha” Moment
When we’re going through our initial analysis of someone’s portfolio and, often for the first time, they actually “get” their investments. Many people have accumulated this, “financial grab bag” of products and accounts over the years, but never really understood how any of it works or what it costs. Once the light bulb goes on, they realize it’s not that complicated and start asking really good questions.
How Do I Help Our Clients “Get Ready” for Life’s Transitions
Someone very smart once told me that expectations minus reality equals level of happiness. I try to help our clients not only dream big, but also make sure they have realistic expectations, so that I can help them meet those goals.
Most Satisfying Part of Life at HFM Investment Advisors
Getting to tell our clients the truth and being able to educate them on the important things rather than “pitch” a product. I get to spend my time talking with people about reaching their goals and getting real peace of mind around their money.
Friends or Family Poke Fun At
I can be pretty stubborn about things, so I’ll often catch flack for being “hard headed.”
“Hope is not the conviction that something will turn out well but the certainty that something makes sense, regardless of how it turns out.” – Vaclav Havel
Top of Mind During Calls with Clients
I always try to think: if this was my mom or dad how would I treat them? I would want to be sure they understood my explanation and make sure they feel better about their concern.
My Fiance, Carolyn and I rescued a pit bull puppy in early 2016, so he (Cash) keeps us busy! We live in Center City Philadelphia and try to spend as much time as possible enjoying what city life has to offer.
Most People Might Not Know
I’m a Mummer! I strut my stuff on Broad St. in Philadelphia and put on a show at the Convention Center every New Year’s Day with the Saturnalian Fancy Brigade.
Most Memorable Trip
A family vacation with my parents and sister to Italy right after we had both finished college To see cities, statues and churches that have been there for thousands of years, really puts things into perspective… and of course, the food (and wine)!
I always try to stay in touch with the community and give back when I can in appreciation of the great life I have. I’ve also been a part of Rotary International for many years and I enjoy volunteering, working on hands-on projects throughout the community.
Calendar… My whole life is in there!
I would say it would be somewhere warm with a beach. Nice, romantic Friday night, followed by some offshore fishing with buddies Saturday (catching a ton of big fish of course) and dinner with our ladies, and then an awesome brunch Sunday morning with the rest of the day on the beach playing games and relaxing.
